San Francisco Self-guided Tours & Rentals

We loved the Escape the City boxes. We just did the Castro box and previously did the other San Francisco box a few years earlier. We live just outside the city and this was a fun activity for a few hours. It made us notice things that we previously never did- and later when visiting the area we were reminded of our experience.The clues were hard but clever- but the optional hints made it easier. It’s my only escape room experience, but my kids found it familiar to other escape rooms.$50 seemed like a lot at first for the box. But it’s such a great deal- it was great entertainment for our family of four for several hours. More affordable than a traditional escape room and much nicer to be outside and at your own pace.I liked the Castro neighborhood better than SOMA but both were good. But be warned- it is the Castro- you may see some nudity.When we travel next we might try a box in a new city. We’ve gotten gifts of boxes for friends in their cities and recommended it to others.

Our Escapely experience in the Castro was amazing! We have a 3 month old baby and it was the ideal adventure to take him on! We went with my in-laws, our best friends and their baby and everyone had a blast. The clues were engaging, challenging, fun, and kept us completely captivated and enthralled throughout. We loved the difficulty level and were perfectly challenged every step of the way. I liked how diverse the clues were and how they all connected. We also loved the other Escapely SF game and gifted one to our friends in DC. I’ve done Escape rooms around the world and Escapely is truly one of the best I’ve ever experienced!

We had a lot of fun solving puzzles and finding things in this area.

I went on a date where we played the Escapely game around SOMA (south of market in San Francisco). The clues were really clever and we had so much fun solving the puzzles. It made our date super fun and engaging. Highly recommend for friends and family to do as well.

Helped quickly and friendly. Good electric bikes. Battery lasted all day EN and back DE over the Gollden gate bridge.

Absolutely loved the game! We had high expectations for the Castro edition after having completed their other SF-based game—it did not disappoint, we had a blast. What a fun way to spend a few hours in the city!

What a VERY cool outdoor experience! Our kids range from 18 to 24, so it's tough to agree on activities everyone enjoys, school and work schedules don't help. Travel plans can get expensive.This outdoor escape adventure in San Francisco totally exceeded our expectations. Each challenge was unique. I loved watching how logically our kids approached everything. It was fun to see their different problem-solving styles in action—they came in handy throughout!We all agreed it was a blast, and would definitely do it again. Highly recommend for families looking for a fun, engaging way to bond and explore the city outdoors!

We had fun exploring SF. We like how they had us go to art that is around the city. Just a lot of walking, so prepare for that. Also, best for a small group and teens. I think young kids will get too tired and they may not be able to figure out the clues.

I grew up in the Castro and was very excited to find a game centered on such an important place in my life. My daughter and I love puzzles and had an absolute blast mixing stories of my childhood with ghostly puzzles using the neighborhood as a source of the clues.We were very pleasantly surprised that these puzzles were actually puzzling and required you to think and explore the neighborhood. Having a clue in front of Harvey Milk's camera shop let me know that the puzzle makers really understood the neighborhood and it made us read a plaque VERY carefully to figure out the solution.My daughter is heading back to school with the NY Central Park game in hand, this was a super fun experience and I'm a bit jealous that she gets to do another one.

Easy pick-up process and flexibility to drop-off at their partner location with a later closing time. Provided maps, bike locks, and handlebar bag along with bike rental.We had brought our own helmets, so did not use the helmets included in rental.

My boyfriend gave me this escape room as a gift, and we spent a fun 2.5 hours solving it in SOMA. Saw parts of town that we wouldn't have otherwise, got some steps in, and got to flex our "problem-solving" muscles. If you like escape rooms or games, I'd recommend picking up the outdoor escape room for your home city!

My family and I had such a wonderful experience with the Escapely game in San Francisco. We weren’t sure what to expect, but it ended up being one of the highlights of our trip. The guided walk blended sightseeing, storytelling and puzzle solving perfectly.We loved how each clue taught us something interesting about the city and led us to spots we might have otherwise missed. It felt like a fun adventure and a mini tour at the same time, and the puzzles were challenging in the best way.Most importantly, it was a great bonding experience for all of us. We laughed, learned, explored and worked together every step of the way.Highly recommended for families, visitors or anyone who wants a unique and engaging way to discover San Francisco. We’ll definitely try Escapely again in another city!
